El Calafate is beautiful!
....¨Where do you want to go?¨
¨I dont know¨
..I picked a random hostel from my guidebook..
¨Iguess that one¨
The bus ride from the airport to the town reminded me of those long car rides I used to do in Eygept; Nothing in the distance, except huge brown mounts. As we neared the town more and more houses started to appear. Far apart from each other, spread around in no particular order. Some were modern and well built but others were made out of random pieces of metal and wood. Stray dogs everywhere! chasing and barking at the bus.
The minibus dropped me off at a hostel. Turned out to be a good choice. A beautiful hostel with a comfy bed and nice people. I went to explore this swamp with some people I met, which was supposed to have flamingoes. Got to the entrence and some guy came running out of a hut ¨10 pesos¨. 10 pesos¿ fuck that.
We stood around for a bit..Looking at the Flamingoes in the distance and decided to go back.
Next day I decided to go to glaciar perito moreno, the main reason I was there...
Everyones already been there so i went alone.
In hebrew its called ¨The shattering glaciar¨, and for a good reason. Every 2 or 3 mins youd hear a CRACK see a piece fall, followd by a BOOM. And for some reason, it would always happen when youre not looking.
I did get to see a really big one tho. the boom was so loud, my heart started racing.
The glaciar itslef is beautiful.
it stretches for Kms, and ends when it reaches the lake. It doesnt just gradually slide into the lake, the glacier ends with an almost perfect 90 dergee wall, From which the pieces fall off. The wall seems to be made up of giant razors of ice, the size of 2 tall buildings. and when looking in the distance, and seeing the razors getting smaller and smaller you realize how enormous the glaciar really is.
After spending a few hours staring at it..and getting pissed off that my camara died half way, I got back on the bus and headed back to the hostel.
I got back to the hostel and had a choice to make- Go to Torres del Paine in chile or el chalten in argentina. Both trekking areas, both bus rides cost the same. hmm..
Decided to go to chile.
